Research

Standing research lines

Research at Brand & Signal is programmatic rather than occasional: a small number of study lines, re-run on a published cadence, using one versioned methodology so that editions can be compared.

State of Digital Brand Performance

A cross-industry reading of how organizations perform against the seven Brand dimensions, and where the largest systematic gaps sit between what organizations believe they communicate and what is publicly observable.

Scope

  • Cross-sector sample evaluated against the Brand side of the framework
  • Year-over-year comparison once a second edition is published
  • Sector-level distribution rather than individual ranking

State of AI Findability

A measurement of how organizations are retrieved, described and cited by generative systems — and how quickly that machine-held view changes when the underlying sources change.

Scope

  • Fixed prompt set run across multiple assistants
  • Accuracy, presence and citation measurement
  • Source attribution analysis: which third-party sources shape the answer

Industry Indices

Sector-by-sector application of the full framework, published as standing indices that are re-measured on a defined cycle rather than one-off reports.

Scope

  • One index per sector, re-run on a published cadence
  • Consistent methodology version across a cycle
  • Full dataset published with each edition

Methodology Studies

Research into the framework itself: dimension weighting, inter-rater reliability, the stability of AI findability measurement, and the correlation between framework scores and commercial outcomes.

Scope

  • Inter-rater reliability testing across evaluators
  • Weighting sensitivity analysis
  • Stability testing of AI measurement over time
  • Outcome correlation where data can be obtained

Publication standards

  • Every study states its methodology version, evaluation dates and inclusion criteria.
  • Datasets, query sets and prompt sets are published with the study.
  • Limitations are published with the findings, not after them.
  • No result, score or ranking is previewed, estimated or trailed before a study completes.
  • Corrections are dated and republished; scores cannot be purchased or negotiated.
